  • Where does the tour start and finish?

The tour starts in Tottori and ends in Izumo.  Fly in toTottori Airport (TTJ) and fly out ofIzumo Enmusubi Airport (IZO).

  • How long is the tour? How many days of riding?

This tour is 10 days long, with 9 riding days.

  • What's the tour like?

Over nine cycling days, you’ll cover a total of 483 km through the diverse landscapes of San-in. The riding is moderately challenging, with steady climbs on most days but plenty of time to rest and recharge in the afternoons and evenings. All rides are point-to-point, except for the ferry crossings to and from the Oki Islands and a short train ride on the final day into Izumo. While cycling is the heart of this journey, the experience goes far beyond the bike—you’ll also immerse yourself in Japan’s culture, traditions, spirituality, cuisine, and wellness practices.

With your guide’s deep local knowledge, you’ll always know what to expect in terms of distance and terrain, making each day both rewarding and manageable. Water and refreshments are readily available along the route to keep you energised.

    Suitability
This is an active-level tour designed to offer a satisfying challenge. Expect to climb an average of 725 meters per day, with three days exceeding 1,000 meters (the highest reaching about 1,300 meters). Daily distances range between 45 and 70 km, ridden at a comfortable pace with frequent stops for scenery and culture. The main challenge lies in maintaining stamina over consecutive days of riding and managing consistently hilly terrain, sometimes with headwinds. Less experienced cyclists are welcome but should prepare beforehand to handle the terrain confidently. A support vehicle is always available for those who need a break.

    Biking Conditions
You’ll ride primarily on paved roads that are generally in good condition, though occasional broken asphalt, debris, or potholes can appear. San-in’s quiet, rural nature means traffic is usually light, though you’ll still share the road with cars, motorbikes, and buses, especially near cities or popular spots. Some sections on busier main roads are unavoidable. Weather-wise, spring and fall can bring rain, and coastal winds or storms are possible. We typically ride in all conditions, but your guide may adjust the route based on weather or group comfort—it’s all part of the adventure!

  • Do I have to pay if travelling alone?

You are not required to pay a surcharge for travelling alone. The tour operator will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveller of the same gender. If you cannot be matched, they will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share, a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room.

  • What's the weather like?

Japan has a diverse climate. There are four seasons: from April to June is spring. The rainy season is from middle of June to the middle of July. July through end of September can be hot and humid temperatures in the big cities can go as high as 35 degrees Celsius.

  • What's the food and drink like on tour?

Meals are included as per the itinerary where B = breakfast, L = lunch, Most meals will be Japanese seafood; a typical breakfast would include rice, a piece of grilled fish, miso soup. There will always be granola and muesli for those in need. Dinners will include lots of different seafood - some cooked, some raw. Any special dietary requirements can also be catered for as well. Please let us know at the time of booking.
