The tour starts and ends in Antananarivo. Fly into and out of Toliara airport (TLE).

  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

The tour is 17 days long with 11 days cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

Your bicycling journey takes place over 17 days with 11 cycling days, covering approximately 530 km (329 mi) with around 300 km(186 mi)  being dirt roads. This is an average of 48 km (30 mi) per day with a support car available. To get the most out of the trip you should be an active cyclist and enjoy biking in a group.

Madagascar is a third world country that is not fully geared up to tourism. Therefore be prepared to expect changes to the itinerary or accommodation right up the last minute. Due to weather conditions, (rain or cyclones) whole areas can be flooded or bridges may be destroyed. Aircraft may not fly; trains are not always on time – sometimes not at all. The standard of roads and accommodation is not the same as in Europe or other developed countries. Don’t forget: You’re on holidays. The tour operator is flexible in terms of distances and timings. If you need to do some extra miles, they will be happy to arrange this for you. If you think a bit less is fine, the support car is often very close at hand.

Typically, you will be sharing your experiences with like-minded bikers and you'll have a cycling tour manager with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends, the tour is good value and a great way to meet new people. Although the itinerary is scheduled, there is some flexibility according to your needs. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as experiencing new cultures.

It is a developing destination and you will be cycling through remote areas where hotels, infrastructure and travel services are often basic. Landscape, people, smooth road cycling, challenging off-road cycling, ease off removing or adding kilometres to the itinerary, excellent quality of hotels.

"Cycle Madagascar is owned and managed by Germans. German attention to detail was obvious. The local manager came up to each of us, shook our hands, and thanked us for using Cycle Madagascar. We had up to seven individuals including the guides supporting the trip at various times. The main guide was a 23 year old English kid who had only been guiding for three months, yet he was top quality, paying very good attention to the details that made this a guality trip, and was an experienced rider. He spoke English and French. The second guide was a woman who spoke German and the local language. The individual who led up the rear was a strong cyclist and an expert mechanic who could fix most mechanical issues on the road. The food was great! The support staff even cooked meals on the spot for lunch some days. The lunches were good! The support staff were friendly."
