Experience the best off-road riding the Central North Island has to offer on a fully supported, 5-day guided trip riding Rotorua's Whakarewarewa Forest Loop, some sections of the Waikato River Trail and the Great Lakes Trails and finishing with the iconic Timber Trail.
Your journey begins in the thermal resort town of Rotorua, where you’ll ease into the adventure on the newest of New Zealand’s Great Rides—the Whakarewarewa Forest Loop. This Grade 2 trail is the perfect introduction, offering smooth, flowing riding through iconic redwood forest.
From there, you’ll explore two sections of the Waikato River Trail, riding through a mix of forest and farmland alongside New Zealand’s longest river.
The adventure then continues deeper into the Pureora Forest, where you’ll ride the 87km Timber Trail over two days. Along the way, you’ll cross dramatic suspension bridges, pass historic timber milling sites, and follow the Ongarue Spiral bush tramway. You’ll also spend two nights in a purpose-built lodge set right in the heart of the forest.
Next, you’ll head to the shores of Lake Taupō, New Zealand’s largest lake, surrounded by striking volcanic scenery and expansive water views. The following morning, you’ll ride the scenic northern trails around the lakeside settlement of Kinloch, with the chance to enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake, weather permitting.
With a dedicated support vehicle throughout, you’ll also have the opportunity to visit key highlights along the way, including Huka Falls and the Wairakei Terraces and Thermal Pools.
