Untamed Borneo
This trip starts off where the wild things are. You'll cycle to, and spend two nights in, the midst of Malaysia’s largest wildlife reserve, where you are sure to sight monkeys and teeming bird life. Next it’s on to a boat to cruise through the mangroves of the Kinabatagan River and hopefully sight proboscis monkeys, found only in Borneo. The tour will visit two different sanctuaries to see proboscis monkeys and orangutans up close before switching tracks and cycling off road. Then, from a position up high with spectacular views of Mount Kinabalu, you'll descend to the stunning coastline and are rewarded for all your efforts with a night at a luxurious resort.

SpiceRoads CyclingBorneo, Asia’s largest island, is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, and on this 11-day biking adventure through Sabah, you’ll experience it up close. Its ancient rainforests are home to species you won’t find anywhere else—orangutans, long-nosed monkeys, and pygmy elephants. Beyond the wilds, you’ll also explore Sabah’s highlands, mountains, and stunning coastline.
You’ll begin in Sabah’s capital, Kota Kinabalu, before flying east to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Spend two nights at a jungle lodge and explore the surrounding forest by bike, on foot, and on safari. Then, follow the winding Kinabatangan River, cruising its waters in search of playful monkeys swinging through the trees and elephants cooling off in the river. Next, you’ll meet Borneo’s iconic primates at a world-famous orangutan rehabilitation center and a sanctuary for proboscis monkeys at the northern tip of the island.
Your journey continues into rural Borneo as you cycle through palm-oil plantations and dirt trails winding through tea fields, arriving at Poring, known for its thermal hot springs and treetop walkway. From there, you’ll climb into the highlands, where Mount Kinabalu, Southeast Asia’s tallest mountain, greets you in all its majesty. Finally, you’ll ride to the western coast, relaxing at a beautiful beach resort overlooking the South China Sea before returning to Kota Kinabalu.
Hit the trails and roads of northern Borneo, and discover a world where wilderness still reigns!
