Cycling the Fjords of Norway
Embark on an e-bike leisure tour exploring the beautiful fjords of Norway over 7 memorable days.
When picking out the world’s most beautiful countries, Norway always ranks highly and it is little wonder why. Spectacularly steep fjords, giant glaciers, snaking rivers, deep lakes, waterfalls, colorful fishing villages, mountains and, of course, the mesmerising beauty of the Arctic means you are never short of a photo opportunity and wonderful landscape to explore. Getting out into nature is a true passion for Norwegians, and fortunately, this is a land built for grabbing your bike and heading out into the wild.
To really embrace Norway’s beauty and the Norwegian way of life a trip to the mystical and scenic Lofoten Islands is an absolute must. Boasting a fascinating Viking history, dramatic mountainscapes and a colorful range of fishing villages, the islands here make for wonderful cycling territory.
Wherever you point your bicycle in the Lofoten Islands, you will be richly rewarded with jaw-dropping views, especially in the likes of the picturesque fishing village, Reine. Little fishing houses perch atop poles, and the narrow roads and bridges, offering views either side you ride out on to the seriously photogenic island of Sakrisøya will have you giddy with delight.
The white beaches and blue Caribbean waters of the Lofoten are well known, and thanks to the Gulf Stream temperatures here are pleasantly warm, meaning a dip is definitely required. Rørvika’s beach offers the ideal spot for an invigourating swim before you jump back on the bike to cycle to the idyllic town of Henningsvær, also known as the Venice of the North.
Enjoy the fishing boats parked up in the centre of town as they effortlessly blend with boutique shops and excellent restaurants. Henningsvær is also known for its amazing rock formations, plus an incredibly unique soccer field located on practically its own island. Lofoten holds so many special places it is hard to list them all but riding your bike between each island and witnessing both the midnight sun, plus the Northern Lights will remain a lifelong memory.
Wildlife lovers will have a ball in Norway with the possibility of spotting whales off the coast, seeing wild reindeer in the interior or for the true intrepid adventurers, Svalbard offers the grand prize sights of polar bears and walruses.
While nature is the major drawcard for Norway, the country’s vibrant culture and Scandinavian flair for design means there is much to be enjoyed in cities such as the capital of Oslo and Bergen. The latter is ridiculously photogenic with colorful wooden houses adoring a wharf, supported by a backdrop of fjords and mesmerising mountains. Throw in an innovative approach to cuisine, blending old and new, a range of excellent festivals in otherworldly locations, and well, you can be guaranteed a heck of a cycling adventure in Norway.
