Itinerary Details

  1. Day 1Siem Reap: Arrival day and welcome dinner

Arrive in the vibrant heart of Siem Reap, where a cosmopolitan lifestyle has flourished since Cambodia opened its doors to the world. After being picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel, take some time to relax or explore the city at your own pace. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a cozy, NGO-supported restaurant. This dining experience not only offers a delicious meal but also supports a training program empowering marginalized youth. Savour an array of traditional local dishes for an authentic taste of Cambodia.

    • Dinner
  2. Day 2Siem Reap: Sunrise cycling around the temples of Angkor

Your day starts early at 4:30 AM as you hop on your bike for the first time, but the effort is well worth it. Watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat is a bucket list moment you'll never forget. From there, you'll explore other, perhaps even more awe-inspiring, temples in the area throughout the morning. In the early afternoon, you'll visit your first NGO of the trip, where you'll meet remarkable individuals who have devoted their lives to making a difference. Listen to their inspiring stories and gain deeper insight into the real challenges facing the country.

  3. Day 3Battambang: River riding, local villages and coffee stops

You will ride out of Siem Reap to the boat port (20km/12.4mi). Travelling across the wetlands and navigating your way around Tonle Sap river is an experience you will never forget. The road soon turns to single track as you get more and more remote. You will farewell the support van and venture on into the rural and barren lands of Cambodia. Few villages exist out here, supporting themselves through sustainable fishing methods. After around a 4hr boat ride, it’s another 20-30km (12.4-18.6mi) to Battambang, depending on the river levels. Battambang is great for shopping, with colonial style streets and hidden secrets where bric-a-brac abounds. Dinner is in another social enterprise based restaurant, Jann Bai, that is often hailed as the best dinner in Cambodia!

Riding today is between 40-50km (25-31mi).

  4. Day 4Pursat: Battambang to Banan by bike

After an early breakfast, you’ll make your way along the dusty red back roads to the nearby local attraction of Banan Temple. You’ll cycle back to the town of Battambang to explore a little more and grab lunch at leisure. You’ll get to the town of Pursat by early afternoon and into your hotel to enjoy the swimming pool and on site massage spa. You’ll get a great experience from an amazing NGO, Sustainable Cambodia. A full presentation by the executives in their office and a tour of their facilities. See the difference the NGO makes first hand. Be inspired by the real difference made by real people.

The back roads bring in some of the most spectacular scenery as you pass through villages living on Tonle Sap lake. The ride takes in great coffee stops, endless photo opportunities and a couple of ferries.

This is a great insight into REAL local everyday issues, from real local everyday heroes. You'll then venture towards the Russian market and move to Tuol Sleng, also known as S-21 Genocide Museum. This devastating chapter of the Khmer Rouge and Cambodian history is emotionally challenging but strongly recommended. There is some free time in the afternoon to process your day, whilst you’ll meet again for a local Khmer BBQ dinner tonight.

You cycle south of Phnom Penh, heading to Chisaur Mountain Temple in rural Cambodia. At just 130m, it’s more of a hill than a mountain, and the route is perfectly flat. You’ll pedal through remote villages and along tranquil waterways, following narrow dirt tracks. At Chisaur Temple, you’ll have lunch and plenty of time to explore its ancient ruins, which predate Angkor Wat by 200 years. From there, a van will take you to the coastal town of Kampot, where you can savour the local culinary delights.

If cycling uphill doesn’t rock your world, the tour operator can bring your bike in the van and you can cycle down! If you feel like taking some time off the bike, Kampot is a great town to caffeinate, people watch and relax.

Cycling into Saigon for the final ride of your tour is a one-of-a-kind experience. Ho Chi Minh City offers a glimpse of what the world might look like if cars didn’t dominate, with entire lanes and roads dedicated to two-wheelers. The last 15km of cycling is optional, so if the traffic feels intimidating, you can hop into the van—about half the group usually does. Your hotel is centrally located, just a short walk from the Street Food Market, where you’ll enjoy dinner and live music to end the day.

Mekong Plus takes a holistic approach, offering education scholarships, vocational training, microfinance programs, and social enterprise opportunities. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Ho Chi Minh City offers a vibrant mix of local markets, grand shopping centers, museums, and attractions to discover.
