Alpe Adria Cycle Path: Salzburg - Grado

We had long planned this Alpine crossing, and after the Tauern Tunnel opened, we were finally ready to cycle it. Based on positive experiences in recent years, we booked the trip with luggage transfer through a travel agency. And once again, we were completely satisfied. Everything was perfect, and we're already certain we'll do a similar cycling week in 2027. The scenery was different every day, but always stunning. The daily distances were well-suited to the demands of the route and the sights along the way. The only downside was staying overnight in Mallnitz so early in the year, as nothing in the town (except for the Billa supermarket) was open yet. Starting in Obervellach would certainly have been more convenient and quite doable. Otherwise, however, everything was superbly organised. This was my second time doing this tour, first alone and now with my partner. The scenery was wonderful, the stages were well-planned, and the longest but also most beautiful stage was from Villach to Gemona along a former railway line. The accommodations were very nice – especially the hotel in St. Johann and the hotel in Grado. And the route wasn't overcrowded at the end of the season. Well-equipped e-bikes with comfortable handlebars meant we completed the tour without any wrist pain. Excellent support; someone was always immediately available by phone. When we had battery problems during our first overnight stay, the bike was promptly replaced. We were consistently very satisfied with the hotels; the breakfasts on the Austrian side were excellent, and the Italian ones offered a good Italian breakfast :-) The hotels were all located in key central locations along the route, with the exception of the hotel near Gemona, which we would have preferred to be more centrally located in Venzone or Gemona.
