Experience one of Hobart’s most spectacular and accessible bike adventures!
Your adventure begins at the Operator’s South Hobart shop, where you'll meet your guide for a tour briefing and be fitted with your mountain bike, helmet, and gloves. From here, a 30-minute shuttle takes you to the summit of Mt Wellington, rising 1,270 metres above sea level.
At the summit, you'll have time to wander, take in the fresh alpine air, and enjoy sweeping 360-degree views across Hobart, the River Derwent, and southern Tasmania. Once you've soaked up the scenery, it's time for an exhilarating 6 km descent along the mountain road, with spectacular views unfolding around every bend.
After the road descent, you'll board a second shuttle for a 20-minute transfer to the southern side of the mountain, where your guided rainforest ride begins.
Following the historic Pipeline Track, you'll enjoy a gentle 12 km downhill ride through lush temperate rainforest. Pedal beneath towering eucalyptus trees and giant tree ferns as you pass waterfalls, historic aqueducts, and abundant native wildlife. Keep an eye out for wallabies, pademelons, wedge-tailed eagles, lyrebirds, and the local favourite—the "turbo chook."
Throughout the ride, your experienced local guide will share stories about Mt Wellington's fascinating history, unique ecosystems, and the native plants and animals that call this remarkable landscape home.
Your ride finishes back at the South Hobart shop after approximately four hours, having experienced one of Hobart's most spectacular and accessible cycling adventures.
This tour covers a total of 19 km, all downhill, making it suitable for riders with basic fitness and good fundamental bike-handling skills. You'll ride a well-maintained gravel trail with gentle gradients on a quality front-suspension mountain bike equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, a 12-speed drivetrain, and a remote dropper seat for added comfort and control.
