  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts and ends in central Queenstown where you will be collected from and dropped back to. Fly into/out of Queenstown Airport (ZQN).

  • How long is the tour? How many hiking days?

The tour is 7 days long with 6 days being hiking days and 1 free day where you may walk if you wish.

  • What's the tour like?

Trails on this itinerary are largely formed paths and tracks which can involve hiking for 3-4 hours at a time. Often information panels are available to provide more information but the Catlins region is more remote. This tour is ideal for those looking to explore a region without engaging in too much trekking at one time. For you to be able to really enjoy this trip we recommend that you are to walk comfortably for a few hours at a time (with breaks included) and some hills. The tour operator recommends 60 minutes of aerobic type exercise, (either cycling, jogging or power walking) three times a week for the three months leading up to your trip.

  • Who will lead the group?

The guides are one of the operator's biggest assets. They pride themselves with the standard and quality of these great people who you will be spending your holiday with. They come from all walks of life but they all have a common desire to give you the best possible experience, heaps of fun and lots of fond memories to take home with you. You'll be provided with the services of two guides for many of the trips, (this may depend on the size of the group). All are certified in first aid and CPR and many are advanced mountain guides.

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip because of the following: small group size, the variety of trails and the dedication and knowledge of the guides.

The wide variety of scenery, hikes, animals and a local guide is what makes this a special gem.
