  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts and ends in Taupo, in the middle of the North Island - you'll be picked up from a central location there on day 1 and dropped back to a central location early evening on the last day.

You can fly to Taupo Airport (TUO) from Auckland or Wellington or use the InterCity bus network to travel from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Napier, or Wellington to Taupo.

  • How long is the tour? How many cycling days?

The tour is 6 days long with 5 days being cycling days and 1 day being spent on the water.

  • What's the tour like?

The trip is graded moderate. You will need a good level of fitness and 2-3 hours of cycling three times a week for the three months leading up to your trip is suggested.  You will need to be able to cycle 50-60km each day for the Standard itinerary, and as much as 90km on the longest day of the Avid itinerary. The on-road sections will have low to moderate traffic levels on back-roads. Riders need to be confident riding with some traffic. Ebikes are suitable if ridden appropriately and battery life is managed (i.e. not on turbo the whole time, and in the correct chain ring for climbing hills). The tour is fully supported and if at any stage you feel like having a rest from cycling you will be able to ride in the support vehicle.

  • Who will lead the group?

The guides are one of the operator's biggest assets. They pride themselves with the standard and quality of these great people who you will be spending your holiday with. They come from all walks of life but they all have a common desire to give you the best possible experience, heaps of fun and lots of fond memories to take home with you. You'll be provided with the services of two guides for many of the trips, (this may depend on the size of the group). All are certified in first aid and CPR and many are advanced mountain guides.
