  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour begins in Paris, France and ends in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

You can fly into Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Paris Orly (ORY) and out of Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS).

    Train:
If you want to get back to Paris at the end of the tour, there is a fast train that takes you there in just 3 hours and 17 minutes. The train is bookable 3 months in advance starting at € 39,- one-way p.p. During weekdays this train runs every 2 hours. Note that you cannot take a bike on this train (if you are considering BYO bike).

  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

The tour is 12 days long with 10 days of cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

The tour is described as challenging by the tour operator and has an average of 74km per day of cycling involved. You can expect a journey through varied terrain with regular climbs, some of them strenuous even to the point of perhaps having to get off and push for a bit.

On the whole, it is hard to predict how cyclists will experience the level of difficulty of their tour. It depends on a range of factors, some of them subjective. To name but a few:

-Wind direction and speed on a certain day. Headwind or tailwind?

-Weather conditions. Thirty kilometres may feel like longer in the rain.

-The number of gears on the (rental) bicycle.

-The general level of fitness of the cyclist and how they are feeling on the day.

-The number of consecutive cycling days.

This tour has 10 consecutive cycling days, all with pretty high mileage, so do bear this in mind when booking and ensure you are fit enough to enjoy the tour. Note that e-bikes are available to hire should you be in any doubt about your ability.

  • How does the self-guided aspect work?

On arrival at your first hotel there will be a route pack awaiting you, with information about your tour journey. GPS tracks are also available if desired on this route and support is available, by phone, 7 days a week should you need it.

The beauty of a self-guided cycle tour is that you can travel at your own pace, plan your own days but have a fixed, tried and tested, safe cycle route to guide you to your final destination. You also have accommodation booked in convenient spots along the way, your baggage transferred and the reassurance of support should you need it.

  • Can I rent a bike?

You will find your rental bikes waiting for you at your first hotel. The hotel reception staff will give you the keys for your bikes and direct you to the bicycle shed.

All bikes are provided with chain locks. If a bike gets stolen and your insurance does not cover this event, you will have to pay the costs yourself.  Bike insurance is possible as an optional extra.

One pannier is included for standard bikes and the e-bikes.  See equipment FAQ for more info.

  • What if it rains?

Make sure you always have your rain gear with you. Moreover, pack dry clothes in your water-proof pannier bags. That way you can change into dry clothes upon arrival at your hotel even if your luggage has not yet been delivered.

  • What time will my luggage be picked up / dropped off at the hotel?

Your luggage must be ready for pick-up at 09:00 hrs and will be delivered to your next hotel before 17:00 hrs.

  • What is SGR contribution?

From 1 February 2021, a SGR contribution of € 5 per person will be charged for every booking, with the exception of children younger than two years.

SGR is the most recognized and recognized quality mark for travelers. They are the largest guarantee fund in the Netherlands. If an affiliated travel organization gets into financial difficulties before departure, you will be refunded the prepaid travel money. If you are already on a trip, the guarantee fund can ensure that you can complete the cycling trip. Your stay will then still be paid from the fund.

This fee is automatically added to your booking.

  • What is a seasonal surcharge?

This is an additional fee by the Tour Operator which they charge during peak season.

  • What equipment is included with the bikes?

Helmets are not mandatory but can be rented for €15,- per helmet.
