With the completion of all the sections of off-road trail from Stoke to Kohatu, this new trip ticks all the boxes. Starting the cycling at Kohatu, the first day explores the heritage rural landscape along the Rail Route. Discover historic villages, lush farmland dotted with big trees and charming colonial buildings, and vineyards. The second part of the trip is cycling the Coastal Route, dominated by fresh fruit stalls, cafes and breweries. The route ends on the golden shores of Kaiteriteri - gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park.
An additional night can be booked in Mapua, allowing time to enjoy this arty, foodie village. Take time to wander in the village, visiting the galleries, shops, wine bar, brewery and cafes. Or follow the locals to the estuary for a swim at high tide (or take your lead from the kids who prefer to jump off the wharf). There is plenty to fill a relaxing rest day here. If you stay extra in Mapua, there is also time for an on-road day ride to the village of Upper Moutere. For those with an interest in art, wine or beer, this day in the Moutere area is a must.
Ending in Kaiteriteri, the tour includes a return transfer back to Nelson. However, there is an option available to spend the night in Kaiteriteri and perhaps explore Abel Tasman National Park the following day if you wish. The extra night option includes a night at an Eco Resort in Kaiteriteri – the perfect way to relax at the end of your cycling trip. The tour operator can also arrange a day trip in Abel Tasman National Park, including a return cruise, please contact us with your requirements.
