  • Where does the tour start and end?

The tour starts in Helsingborg and ends in Gothenburg.

Aim to arrive before 17.00 if possible.

The most convenient airport for this trip is Copenhagen (CPH). For those flying from the UK, British Airways offer a direct flight from London Heathrow (LHR) and easyJet and Ryanair both offer various London and regional options. From Copenhagen airport you can travel by train to Helsingborg (regular direct trains that generally take just over an hour) and the hotel is a short walk away.

Alternatively, a nice option if you have the time is to catch the train up through Denmark to Helsingor, and cross over to Helsingborg by boat.

If traveling with your own bikes, you can take bikes onboard ”Öresundståg” trains, but not on train company ‘SJ‘. Bikes are subject to space availability, but there are frequent departures.

For the return journey you can catch the train from Gothenburg to Helsingborg, and then onto Copenhagen airport from there. Please ensure you allow for travel time to the airport before making any travel arrangements.

Alternatively you can fly into and out of Gothenburg-Landvetter airport (GOT). Again BA and Ryanair offer direct flights from the UK. From Gothenburg airport you can catch the airport bus to Gothenburg’s main train station, and jump on a train to Helsingborg from there. At the end of the trip it will be a short taxi ride from the hotel to the airport.

  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

The tour is 8 days long with 6 days of cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

For most of the route you’ll follow the Kattegattleden cycle path. Much of the route is traffic free, however some sections will see you riding on quiet back roads, and occasionally parallel to busier roads with traffic. You’ll be riding on well sign-posted paved cycle paths and some sections on gravel roads.

The tour ranges from flat to slightly hilly, with some cheeky ups and downs along the way and some substantial distances to cover each day. With this in mind, the tour is graded as a level 3 and a good level of physical fitness is required. You would need to be comfortable with some longer days in the saddle.

Ängelholm – Halmstad is the day with the most climbs, and Falkenburg to Varberg is the most relaxed route of the week.

Hybrid or e-bikes can be rented. The route is suitable for a gravel bike, if bringing along your own, although not suitable for a road bike. An e-bike would be a great option, and highly recommended, for those looking for a boost up those cheeky climbs and to help tick off some quick miles on some of the longer days.

    • Distances generally between 20-45 miles / 32-72 kms per day
    • For the leisure cyclist with a good level of physical fitness
    • May include some steeper, cheeky climbs and possibly sections of varying terrain (eg. forest tracks, gravel paths etc)

    Is this suitable for you?

Although you may not cycle everyday, you do keep yourself relatively fit and maybe enjoy an afternoon out on your bike at the weekend. Your preference is perhaps for flatter terrain but you don’t mind tackling some hills, and the occasional steep climb if you can take it at your own pace. For those happy to tackle some ups and downs, and possibly some sections of varying terrain (eg. forest tracks, gravel paths etc). You'll need to have a decent level of physical fitness and be comfortable with some longer days in the saddle.

  • Is there any vehicle support on the tour?

There is no vehicle support on this tour, however, your luggage will be transferred between your accommodation. The tour operator provides a 24-hour emergency contact number for you to call if you encounter any problems during the trip. Please note that this may incur additional charges depending on the nature of the action required.

  • What comes with the bikes?

All bikes come with a pannier rack and one pannier bag (2 if requested), a water bottle cage, a phone mount (not waterproof), a lock and one repair kit per two bikes incl. pump, spare tube, tyre levers and a multi-tool. E-bikes and some touring bikes will have an air-tag attached.

Helmets can be provided on request, but we’d always recommend bringing your own along.

You are welcome to bring along your own saddles / and or pedals, if preferred.

"Loved each day for different reasons!"
Sarah, Surrey
(Review obtained from Tour Operator)

We thoroughly enjoyed each day for different reasons! The easy ride from Falkenberg to Varberg brought an unexpected highlight when we came across an old cottage in Morup that was the former home of Swedish sculptor, Axel Andersson. It has been turned into a tiny living museum by the local historical society and downstairs it is still furnished just as it was when Andersson lived there. The upstairs houses all the furnishings and artefacts from the old school that was situated in the building before Andersson bought it as his home. As a bonus, the old lady running the “museum” has one room as a little cafe with coffee, home made cakes and sandwiches which we ate in the very pretty garden! Definitely recommended!

"An exceptional service from [the operator]"
Rebecca, London
(Review obtained from Tour Operator)

This is our third [operator] holiday in a year and we had a very enjoyable time despite the weather! The bikes were excellent touring bikes and provided in a brand new condition. The repair kit proved invaluable when we had our first puncture on Cycle day 5 from a rogue staple. We had no problems fixing it with the tools provided and Gunnar sent a new spare inner to await us at the next hotel stop. The service from [the operator] has been seamless and all the hotels provided a friendly service. The hotel in Varberg was exceptional with its amazing spa and rooftop pools!
