Your adventure begins in Tottori City with an easy warm-up ride to Japan’s largest and most stunning sand dunes. The next day, you cycle inland through lakes, rivers, rice paddies, and rolling hills to reach a celebrated onsen (hot spring) town. From there, you descend back toward the coast, pedaling along the slopes of Mount Daisen—an extinct volcano that dominates the landscape. Once in Sakaiminato City, you continue to a beautiful inland sea before catching a ferry to the remote Oki Islands. You’ll spend two unforgettable days island riding and hopping through three of the volcanic archipelago’s four inhabited islands.
Returning to the mainland, you visit the intricate Miho Shrine and follow scenic headlands toward the historic city of Matsue. Staying two nights here, you’ll have time to explore the stately “Black Castle” and ride a peaceful countryside loop to the renowned Adachi Museum of Art, home to one of Japan’s most beautiful zen gardens. The tour concludes with a picturesque ride skirting a lake and two rivers before arriving at Izumo Taisha, one of Japan’s most revered Shinto shrines. You’ll spend your final night in the city of Izumo, perfectly positioned to continue your journey across Japan.
