Sri Lanka—a teardrop-shaped island in the Indian Ocean—offers an unforgettable challenge for road cyclists eager to test their endurance on an ever-changing landscape. In the north, long causeways stretch across tranquil lagoons. In the Cultural Triangle, peaceful backroads wind past ancient ruins and lead to the dramatic heights of Sigiriya. In the Central Highlands, lush tea estates flank the switchbacks that snake through the mountains. And in the south, rural roads carve through a patchwork of rice fields and banana groves. Over 12 days, this epic ride from tip to tip reveals the raw beauty, deep culture, and warm spirit of this remarkable island nation.
Your adventure begins with a warm-up ride along the coconut-fringed west coast, followed by a transfer to the Jaffna Peninsula. Once the epicenter of Sri Lanka’s civil conflict, Jaffna is now a vibrant, peaceful region and cultural heartland for the Tamil community. You'll cross lagoons to reach the northernmost point of the island, then continue south across the open plains to Mannar Island—a haven for birdlife. From there, the route leads into the agricultural heart of the country, where you'll explore three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the sacred city of Anuradhapura, the towering Sigiriya Lion Rock, and the stunning Dambulla Cave Temple.
After a well-earned rest day in Kandy, home to Sri Lanka’s most revered Buddhist relic, the climb begins—winding through the cool, misty hills of tea country to elevations over 1,500 meters. Next comes the wild side: a ride through the forests and grasslands near Udawalawe National Park, with the chance to spot elephants roaming free. Your final stretch brings you to Dondra Head, the island’s southernmost tip, crowned by a historic lighthouse. From there, it’s on to the golden sands of Mirissa for a seaside celebration. The journey ends with a return transfer to Colombo.
Join us for this exhilarating island ride—and earn your stripes in Sri Lanka’s road cycling hall of fame.
