  • How long is the tour? How many days cycling?

The tour is 5 days long with 4 days of cycling.

  • What's the tour like?

The Northumberland coast is best known for its sweeping sandy beaches, rolling dunes, and isolated islands. The special qualities of this coastal landscape led to it being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1958 recognizing that the Northumberland coast is one of the finest landscapes in the country. It has a wealth of places to visit from brilliant visitor attractions in Alnwick and impressive coastal castles at Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh, to picturesque villages with great pubs and cafes. Northumberland has excellent road and rail networks and a cycle friendly bus service.

Much of the area is unpopulated and tranquil, with mile after mile of clean and safe award-winning, golden sandy beaches. These together with quiet country lanes provide an unequalled sense of freedom.

The terrain is a mixture of generally flat and undulating on paved river and seaside promenades, minor urban roads, quiet lanes and purpose built Cycleways.

There are a few off-road sections, with tracks across grassy fields or farm roads. Being a National Cycle Network route, there are no “technical” off-road sections. Hybrid bikes are most suitable.

    Is this suitable for you?
The ride is graded as 2 or gentle.  If you‘re looking for an opportunity to try some quiet roads, cycle paths or some accessible, cycle friendly routes this holiday might be for you. You’ll come across some gently undulating terrain and the odd cheeky challenge, so we’d generally expect those on a Grade 2 holiday to ride their bikes relatively frequently at home, perhaps commuting to work or heading out for some leisurely rides at the weekend.

  • Is bike hire included?

If you would like to rent a bike we have both hybrid and electric bikes available.

The hybrid bikes are generally Giant Roam or Liv Rove with a wide gear range, semi-slick tyres, disc brakes and a relaxed riding position.

Our electric bikes are generally Giant E+ Disc brake, pedal assist bikes with batteries suitable for the daily distances on this holiday. E-bikes come with step through frames as standard but some cross bar frames are available if preferred. Please let us know if you have a preference.

Panniers are provided with all our rental bikes along with an emergency repair kit including a spare innertube, bike pump and bike lock. We are also able to provide helmets, if you’d like one to be provided, please request this at the time of booking.

  • How much luggage can I bring?

It's recommend that you bring one main piece of luggage per person, other than your bike, and one small daypack or panniers. The daypack/panniers may be useful for carrying your additional outer-layer clothing and snacks while cycling.

  • What's the food like?

This particular trip includes full-board, with breakfast and dinner taken at the Country House, and a great buffet-style picnic lunch on the rides, made up of plenty of locally sourced produce.

Vegetarians and people with specific dietary requirements can be catered for – please give us details of any specific requirements you may have at the time of booking.

  • Is there vehicle support?

At strategic points (where access allows), you have the security of a support vehicle. In the vehicle there will be some space for tired bikers, allowing the chance of a well-earned break if needed.

You will also be able to leave extra gear or spare kit here during the day meaning there is no need to carry any equipment other than that carried on your normal day ride.

  • Should I prepare for the weather?

When cycling in the UK it’s best to come prepared for sun and rain, warm and cold all in the same day – spring, summer and autumn.

Although there can be wide variations, the monthly average temperature in the UK ranges from 9-12°C (48-54 Fahrenheit) in April, up to 17-20°C (63-68 Fahrenheit) in July, and then 11-14 °C (52-57 Fahrenheit) in October.

At the beginning and end of the season (in March and late October) the weather can be a little less predictable and there could be some cooler / rainier days. In the summer months, temperatures can rise up into the thirties. This can differ from year to year.

It’s highly recommended that you carry layers and a light waterproof with you along the way, (and sun cream in the summer months!) just in case the UK’s weather catches you unawares!

This holiday was wonderful

This holiday was wonderful. It couldn’t have been better – everything perfect and it didn’t rain! The service provided was so efficient. The guides were really helpful – they picked me up from station and took me to my Airbnb after. I hired a bike, and the new bike I was provided was very good – I never got saddle sore! The accommodation was a beautiful house with a lovely big bedroom and bathroom, with sea views. So clean and comfortable.

Every day was a beautiful route but I did particularly enjoy Holy Island on the second day. We had a great tour leader who was very caring, particularly when I was behind on the first day – he was always checking on me. Very knowledgeable of area and made it really interesting. His assistant was also very good, and both provided great refreshments. There was so much delicious food,I haven’t lost a pound!

I feel a more confident cyclist for it!

This was the first time I’ve used the company and I was very impressed with the service before and after. I thoroughly enjoyed it; I feel a more confident cyclist for it. Very friendly atmosphere within the group and from the guides. Also, as a vegan traveler, I felt very well looked after and people went to lot of trouble for me which I much appreciated, you have great staff.
